The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has pulled in more than US$1 billion in ticket sales worldwide, making it the 15th highest grossing film of all time.
The first film of Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy has brought in US$1,001,134,992 (NZ$1,213,515,769) so far - $301 million in US box offices and $700 million in the rest of the world, according to statistics collated by Box Office Mojo.
Ranking at 15, the film is hot on the heels of the Jackson's Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which is number six on the list.
Avatar is the highest grossing film of all time at US$2.78 billion, followed closely by Titanic.
Warner Bros announced on Friday that the release date of the Hobbit trilogy's third film has been pushed back six months.
