Peter Jackson is out of luck - the final Hobbit film has missed out at the Oscars.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies received one nomination at today's ceremony, for best sound editing, up against Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), American Sniper, Interstellar and Unbroken.
American Sniper, a favourite for best picture, won the award.
Weta Digital also missed out on the Visual Effects award for their work on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, losing out to Interstellar.
Kiwi writer Anthony McCarten is still in the running with two nods for The Theory of Everything.
