An interactive installation is being created for Wellington Airport to welcome visitors to the capital for the world premiere of Peter Jackson's first film in The Hobbit Trilogy.
The airport and Weta Workshop are working together on the project that will be suspended in the main terminal where travellers enter and will be 13m long and 3m high, or the size of a small jet aircraft.
The work was a great opportunity to showcase "the best of our local talent", said Wellington Airport chief executive Steve Sanderson.
The premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be on November 28, ahead of its general release in December. The second and third films in the trilogy are scheduled for release in December 2013 and July 2014.
