Sir Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf in the hugely successful Lord of the Rings movies, will perform at Hawkes Bay Opera House in Hastings.
On June 16 the British actor and theatre buff will treat people to an evening of entertainment to raise money for the Isaac Theatre Royal in Christchurch.
"We are really pleased to secure a date with him," Hawkes Bay Opera House events and programming manager Megan Peacock-Coyle said.
"The venues [which he will perform at] are not charging any extra venue hire and all box office funds will go straight to Christchurch."
During the first half of the show, Sir Ian will talk about his role in Lord of the Rings, read excerpts from Tolkien's books and answer questions from the audience.
