"She drops Liam off in the morning and then spends hours with Harrison," said a source. "She brings him food and reading material."
The recovery process was described by a People insider as "terrifying" for the couple. He reportedly also has a broken pelvis and both his ankles are hurt.
An eyewitness added that the head injury looked to be as long as six inches. But a doctor told the site it will "heal with time".
Ford crashed his World War II single-engine airplane on a Venice Beach, California golf course on March 5. He deliberately steered his 1942 Ryan Aeronautical ST3KR into the ground when the engine failed as he flew over Los Angeles.
A preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board revealed that the crash was caused by "substantial damage following a loss of engine power".
Ford reported an engine failure, turned back toward the airport and struck the top of a tall tree before he landed on the golf course, the NTSB added.

While visiting the Blade Runner star on Sunday she appeared in good spirits, laughing and smiling while driving her black Lexus.
On Friday Flockhart looked like she hadn't slept in a while, her face make-up free and eyes dark-circled and bleary from possible crying as she went to the hospital.
Her light brown hair hung limply around her face and her manner of dress appeared simple and casual as though she'd grabbed the closest clothing in reach.
A source told The Mirror that Flockhart wants her spouse to stop flying.
"Calista is devastated. Thank goodness Harrison is okay but it could have been much, much worse," a friend of the actress told the site.
"It is a worry for her and his children that he has this dangerous hobby. Whether or not he will pilot a plane again remains to be seen but everyone around him certainly hopes he will take a break - or give it up for ever. It is obviously a huge worry."
