Harrison Ford has been asked to reprise his role of Rick Deckard for the sequel to Blade Runner.
Director Ridley Scott is already attached to the project, which has a script by the co-writer of the 1982 film, Hampton Fancher, and Michael Green.
In a joint statement, the co-founders of the production company behind the film said: "We believe that Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have crafted with Ridley Scott an extraordinary sequel to one of the greatest films of all time. We would be honored, and we are hopeful, that Harrison will be part of our project."
The plot is being kept a secret, but the story is known to take place several decades after the original movie.
It was recently announced Ford would reprise his role as Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode VII.
