KEY POINTS:
Harrison Ford is engaged to long-term love Calista Flockhart.
The 64-year-old actor popped the question to Calista, 42, on April Fool's Day and the thrilled former Ally McBeal actress accepted.
Harrison enlisted the help of Calista's six-year-old adopted son Liam for the proposal.
A friend of the couple told Grazia magazine: "He coached Liam to run up to Calista and give her a rehearsed message, 'Mr Ford is going to be my daddy.' Calista just laughed but it was no joke. Harrison then told her he wanted to marry her. She and Liam are absolutely thrilled about the proposal.
"Harrison knows after five years that Calista is the last love of his life. He's been telling everyone he felt it was the right time."
The newly betrothed couple have already started planning their big day.
It is believed that they want the nuptials to be intimate and low-key, and plan to tie the knot shortly after Harrison finishes shooting the fourth Indiana Jones film in the autumn.
Harrison and Calista first met at the 2002 Golden Globe Awards, after the actress accidentally spilled red wine all over the screen legend. They started dating soon after.
This will be the Star Wars actor's third marriage.
He wed college sweetheart Mary Marquardt in 1964, but they divorced in 1979. They have two sons, Ben, 39, and Willard, 37, together.
He tied the knot with E.T. screenwriter Melissa Mathison in March 1983 and they had two children, Georgia, 16, Malcolm, 20.
They legally separated in January 2004 in what is one the most expensive divorces in Hollywood history.
Ford became one of the world's highest-paid actors during their union - making US$20 million a film – and the final settlement is estimated at US$85 million.
Mathison also received a percentage of Harrison's future earnings from films he made while they were married.
The divorce was recently placed at number four in Forbes.com's 10 Most Expensive Celebrity Divorces list.
