Harrison Ford accidentally punched Ryan Gosling on the set of Blade Runner 2049

Imagine meeting your idol - and copping a punch in the face.

That was Ryan Gosling's reality when he teamed up with Hollywood legend Harrison Ford for the sequel to 1982 sci-fi classic, Blade Runner.

He told GQ in its January issue that it felt like he'd experienced a "rite of passage" when Ford accidentally clocked him while filming a fight scene in Blade Runner 2049.

"We were just doing a fight scene and, you know, it just happened," he explained.

"But what was funny was, when it was over, they brought ice for my face, and Harrison pushed me out of the way and stuck his fist in the ice."

The Golden Globe-nominated La La Land star added that the 74-year-old apologised - in his own special way.

"He came by afterwards with this bottle of scotch, and I thought, 'Oh, I knew this was coming'," Gosling said.

"And he pulled out a glass from his pocket, poured me a glass, and walked away with the rest of the bottle. So I guess he felt like he didn't connect enough to earn a whole bottle."

Luckily, the film's director Denis Villeneuve helped put a positive spin on the whole thing.

"As soon as it happened, the director came up to me and said, 'look at it this way - you just got hit by Indiana Jones'," revealed Gosling.

"You know, they say don't meet your heroes, but I would say the addendum to that is ' ... unless they're Harrison Ford.' Cause he's a cool motherf****r."

Blade Runner 2049 is set to be released on October 5.
