Singer Gwen Stefani is known for her glam appearance but some fans were shocked by her new look at the Academy of Country Music Awards this week.

Opinion was divided after the 49-year-old No Doubt vocalist posted a photo of herself to Instagram from the awards night, earning criticism and praise from followers surprised by her dramatic make-over.

"New lips who dis?" "Chill on the surgery," one Instagram user commented.

"Don't like the hair," said another.

"Sorry Gwen, I am not really a fan of this look for once … too much [and] too fake, it doesn't fit you I think," wrote another.

Others were more direct, raising the issue of whether Stefani had undergone cosmetic surgery.

"Chill on the surgery," said one straight-shooter.

Others were quick to come to Stefani's defence, telling the Hoolback Girl hitmaker she looked "gorgeous".

"Very beautiful," commented one fan.

"Stunning," said another.

"Gwen! Love you girl. Your eyes were sparkling your dress was stunning. You are just a beautiful human being!" wrote another.
