Grimes got a shock while performing on stage.

Canadian musician Grimes got the shock of her life when she was zapped onstage by a faulty effects pedal.

The 27-year-old, performing in Dublin for her Art Angels album tour, could be seen in a fan video recoiling in pain during the song Butterfly.

The electric shock appeared to emanate from her earpiece.

Grimes, real name Claire Elise Boucher, quickly shook off the incident and returned to performing.

She later made fun of the incident on her Instagram page.

"Appreciating every1 who tweeted this at me today haha," she wrote, referring to a picture of The Simpsons character Frank Grimes touching high voltage wires.

"Thank u thank u Dublin for being sweet and kind."
