Jeff Conaway's funeral may not be taking place for the next "few months".
The body of the Grease star - who died last week at the age of 60 after falling into a coma earlier in the month following a reported drug overdose - has been released from the Los Angeles County Coroner, but his sisters Michelle and Carla are said to be "overwhelmed" at the prospect of laying their brother to rest.
Ed Winter, assistant chief coroner, said: "Mr. Conaway's body has been turned over to Forest Lawn Mortuary. The autopsy is complete."
A friend of the family added: "Michelle and Carla are grappling with what type of service to have for Jeff. They are simply overwhelmed with the logistics of planning the funeral. Jeff is going to be cremated, but it could take place in a few weeks or in the next few months."
Meanwhile, Jeff's family also face the challenge of deciding how to deal with the actor's former fiancée Vikki Spinoza - who tried to block the turning off of his life support machine - and working out a "special and meaningful" ceremony.
The source told RadarOnline.com: "They also have to contend with how to handle Jeff's ex-fiancée, Vikki Spinoza. There is no love lost between the Vikki and Jeff's family. They need to work out what's the best way to handle the situation. They're going to take their time to plan something special and meaningful.
"It will be a small, intimate gathering for family and close friends only."
