Early wins for the Foo Fighters, Kanye West
The Foo Fighters have been awarded the Grammys for Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Album and Kanye West has scooped up a Grammy for Melodic Rap Performance, for Hurricane and Best Rap Song for Jail.
West was not in attendance at the premiere event where the awards were announced and is unconfirmed for attending the live show.
The rapper, who infamously interrupted Taylor Swift's VMA Award acceptance speech in 2009, has reportedly told ex-wife Kim Kardashian he is "going away to get help".
The biggest names to watch this year are American singer and songwriter, Jon Batiste, who leads the nominations tally with 11 potential wins, followed by pop stalwart Justin Bieber, H.E.R., and Doja Cat all up for eight awards. And Oscar winner Billie Eilish and Disney star turned singing sensation Olivia Rodrigo have both picked up seven nominations.
Kiwi opera star wins Grammy
New Zealand opera star Simon O'Neill was nominated for two Grammy awards: best choral performance and best-engineered album, classical.
While he's just missed out on best engineered album, classical, he's part of the group who has won Best Choral Performance for "Mahler: Symphony No. 8, 'Symphony Of A Thousand'".
Meanwhile, New Zealand's beloved Lorde, who released her third album Solar Power just in time to be considered, has missed out on any nominations this year.
