A blood-splattered trailer for the New Zealand-filmed remake of Sam Raimi's classic 1981 horror movie Evil Dead has hit the internet.
The Red Band (R18) trailer for Evil Dead, directed by Fede Alvarez and produced by Rob Tapert, isn't afraid of gore. At one point, a character slices her face and tongue open with a machete.
Shot in West Auckland earlier this year, the film follows a group of friends holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods.
The cast includes Jane Levy (Suburgatory), Shiloh Fernandez (Deadgirl, Red Riding Hood), Lou Taylor Pucci (Thumbsucker), Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield) and Elizabeth Blackmore (Legend of the Seeker).
"This cast of burgeoning talent share the same spirit we had when creating the original: The desire to deliver an unexpected and outrageously scary movie experience for the audience," Tapert told TimeOut earlier this year.
