Clooney officially went public with his new lady love, TV presenter Canalis, while parading her down the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival this week.

Arriving in romantic Italy with his hot lover, Clooney was snapped waving a heavily-bandaged hand at the throng of paparazzi on the red carpet. The 'ol charmer mangled his hand in a car door a few weeks ago, as explained by his publicist:

"There was an accident and he did break his hand. He was not riding a motorcycle, it was not in Switzerland ... He was on his property in Italy and he shut the car door on his hand. The doctor has given him 30-40 years more to live, and no live animals were harmed during the wrapping of the hand."

Canalis, 30, or "La Canalis" or simply "Eli" as Italian media call her, and Clooney have been canoodling around his villa in Lake Como for the past three weeks, and snitches say they have been more or less inseparable.

Sticking with the lovey-dovey theme, People.com reports that the pair have been taking most if their meals at home, "with Clooney's cook firing up homemade pizzas in a wood-fire oven". And when they're not chewing on pizza, they're spending their free time "lounging by the pool in his secluded garden or on Clooney's boat."

Nice for some. We'll have what she's having.

But while the two have only just started sowing the seeds of love, actor

, dishes that Clooney has had his eye on the Italian lass for years.

Siani blabbed to an Italian magazine that a mysterious car would follow them every day after filming, when he accompanied her back to their hotel.

"One day, I finally decided to go over and confront the occupants of the car. I went over and to my surprise, who was sitting in the car? George Clooney!" Siani said. "This isn't a new fling."

So does this mean that Clooney was sniffing around Canalis while he was dating Las Vegas cocktail waitress

Meanwhile, back on Idiot Island...

Apart from smooching his new arm candy, Clooney also graced the Italian media with his presence at a press conference to launch his new film on Tuesday.

Things went a wee bit queer when Clooney was propositioned - by a reporter who stripped down to his boxers and professed his love for the actor. As you do.

The reporter stripped in front of Clooney and hundreds of bemused reporters, revealing a pair of boxers with the words 'George Clooney Choose Me' emblazoned on them.

"I am gay, George, and I think I am in love with you...Please take me," said the excited wee fella while ripping off his shirt and keks.

"May I kiss you, please. Just one kiss?"

Gracious Clooney took it all on the chin.

"It's hard when you take a big chance and it doesn't really work," he chuckled.

"It's always embarrassing when you take one real big swing for the fences and it just falls flat," he quipped, then added, "You know the tie looks good. And it's just long enough."

The stripper said after being marched out of the press conference by security guards: "There have been lots of rumours that George is gay. I wanted him to come out and offered myself to him. So I wrote on my underwear Choose Me and stripped off.

"I didn't get the answer I wanted however."

What a surprise. Message received: Clooney's not for turning.
