Back in 1998, there was one game that ruled them all. With its stellar storytelling and twisted sense of humour, Grim Fandango soon overpowered Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Day of the Tentacle as every budding adventurer's game of choice.
Its present-day next-gen revamp comes at a time when there's a lot of love for old school adventure games. Done right, this could be an essential trip down memory lane for anyone who loved the original.
There's still so much to love - the dark-hearted humour, playing as a reaper pushing souls towards the afterlife in the Department of Death; the oddball dialogue and snappy comebacks; and the storyline, which stands out for its comic flair and twisted originality. Sadly, this is a half-hearted remastering.
It's delivered in a square format like the PCs everyone played it on originally, so your flash widescreen TV is rendered useless, with big ugly bars blacking out the sides of the screen.
