Like every Disney movie has its own Lego set, every major sports tournament has its own game. The question is, are they necessary? For 2014 Fifa World Cup Brazil, the marketing department at Fifa no doubt says yes, but many sports gamers will probably say no.
The package surrounding the World Cup, which starts July 13, is pretty impressive. It has all the teams, all the fully finished stadiums and all the players. While the updated podcasts after each match are a highlight, nothing in the gameplay has changed from Fifa 2014, which hit the shelves in September. A few more features would help add value to a game that will set you back around $80.
Players can take on a young footballer in Captain Your Country, working through B internationals and friendlies in an attempt to lead a nation in Brazil. But there's only so many times you can win one tournament.
The game also suffers from the classic club vs country debate - you can't play as Manchester City but you can take the likes of Mongolia, Rwanda and Montserrat to World Cup glory. Many would choose the former.
Despite being a decent game, the shelf life of 2014 Fifa World Cup Brazil will barely last before football's pre-season begins. A $20 download for Fifa 2014 owners would have been a better idea.
