Game of Thrones Season 7 releases first full trailer

The first full trailer for season seven of HBO's Game of Thrones has been released, finally giving us a proper look at the Cersei-Jon-Daenerys showdown to come.

With a running time of nearly two minutes, the trailer shows Queen Cersei (Lena Heady) rallying her troops for battle in King's Landing.

"Enemies to the east, enemies to the west, enemies to the south, enemies to the north," she spits. "Whatever stands in our way? We will defeat it."

Meanwhile, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is firmly installed as the King in the North in Winterfell and Daenerys Stormborn (Emilia Clarke) arrives at Dragonstone declaring that she's "Born to rule the Seven Kingdoms".

We also see Unsullied and Dothraki warriors riding together, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) riding through snow, and plenty of the intense dragon-centric action the cast and creators have been promising all these months.

But it's Ser Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) who steals the show with the line: "If we don't put aside our enmities we will die. Then it doesn't matter whose skeleton sits on the Iron Throne."

The official date for the premiere of Game of Thrones season seven on HBO in the USA is July 17.

The release date was previously announced in a time-honoured although not very time-efficient tradition via an ice block and a couple of flame throwers.

Sky Television will simulcast the show on SoHo for Kiwi viewers, and episodes will be made available on streaming service Neon.

While Game of Thrones has traditionally been broadcast in the spring, the team behind the show decided that moving it to later in the year would make sense this time round, allowing for more winter-time filming.
