Game of Thrones cast appeal for refugee support

As fans sit on the edge of their seats in anticipation for season six of Game of Thrones, the show's cast have come together to appeal for refugee support.

In a video uploaded to YouTube, Lena Heady (Cersei Lannister), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Maise Williams (Arya Stark), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) and John Bradley (Samwell Tarly) plea for people to donate to help refugees fleeing from war in the Middle East.

Titled #RealmToTheRescue, a joint initiative between HBO and the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Heady says that in Syria alone half of the population has fled their homes after five years of war.

"So now is the time, Rise up and stand with us, and help bring them to safety," the cast implore.

"Let's come together and do what matters, rescue has no boundaries."

Some fans didn't seem to pleased by the collaborative video, however, responding with a backlash of criticism on the YouTube channel.

"If you want to help refugee spend your own millions and welcome them in your big houses," one said.

"These are actors. They literally have no grasp on higher politics, economics, or social sciences," another said.

Others responded to the critical comments with a wave of positivity, asking people to "build the future, not walls".

"Nobody deserves less than anyone else because of where they were born," Josef Hare said.

"Be Daenerys, not Joffrey," he added.

According to the official website, the IRC is the only international relief agency responding to the crisis and working inside war-struck areas and neighbouring countries to resettle refugees.
