Veteran Hollywood Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has blown up asteroids in space (
Armageddon
), created a blockbuster trilogy based on an amusement park ride (
Pirates of the Caribbean
), and made an action hero out of Nicolas Cage. So, it must have seemed almost reasonable, when contemplating his first 3D adventure comedy for kids, that the stars in
G-Force
playing FBI agents, would be guinea pigs.
Action-packed, but rather average espionage escapade,
G-Force
stars three cute, sassy guinea pigs and a mole. Sam Rockwell, Tracy Morgan, Penelope Cruz and Cage voice the roles of Darwin, Hurley, Juarez and Speckles the mole who are part of a covert government operation run by a lovely geek called Ben (Zach Galifianakis) who trains animals to be successful spies.
After the team oversteps the line on a particular case, the operation is shut down, but when devious millionaire industrialist Leonard Saber (Bill Nighy) puts into action his plan to take over the world, it comes down to them to free themselves from their pet shop home and save the world.
The film is almost saved by its impressive live action and computer generated animation which does a convincing job of bringing the furry characters to life.
But that's the most interesting thing about a film which manages to be as formulaic as any other spy film, complete with a lame script, and jokes which aren't terribly funny.
