Former TV3 newsreader Carolyn Robinson is joining TV One's Seven Sharp

Carolyn Robinson has joined Seven Sharp after 18 years at TV3.

Carolyn Robinson has switched sides, joining the TVNZ team just weeks after lamenting the way TV3 handled her departure.

Robinson, a former Nightline and 3 News presenter and host of What's Really In Our Food?, has signed up as a reporter on Seven Sharp and will start later this month, TVNZ has confirmed.

She is filling in for reporter Matt Chisholm while he hosts Survivor NZ.

Robinson quietly left MediaWorks in January after 18 years at the network, and she slammed TV3 for the way her departure was handled in a scathing column called "Life before Weldon" on The Spinoff.

She also revealed her thoughtless leaving gift.

"I was asked not to tell anyone I was leaving. The news of my departure was only announced after I'd in fact gone. After they'd organised my $100 Whitcoulls voucher," wrote Robinson.

"What for me had begun with such optimism, such joy, had ended in a way that still makes my breath catch."

In a statement, Robinson said she was looking forward to returning to television.

"It's really exciting to be stepping into a role at Seven Sharp. The team there is fantastic, and I can't wait to reunite with the show's executive producer, Antony Stevens, who I worked with on 3 News for a couple of years."

Robinson isn't the only former MediaWorks staff member to have switched sides recently, with former TV3 reporters Rebecca Wright and Anna Burns-Francis both making the change.

The Herald understands long-serving 3 News presenter Hilary Barry has also signed with the network.
