Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement has signalled their popular TV series may be grounded for good because it requires too much work.
Clement said he would have to discuss the future of the show with co-star Bret McKenzie and director James Bobin, but a final decision would be made before the end of the month.
It very likely might not return for a third season, Clement told Reuters.
"It could come back in a shorter season or like a special.
"We've got to write the series, but we've also got to write the songs, and just dividing your time into those two writing tasks is really tricky."
The largely autobiographical comedy follows the duo after their move to New York, where they attempt to make it in the music business.
This year the show was nominated for an Emmy nomination for best comedy series, although it lost out to 30 Rock.
Clement was also nominated for best lead actor in a comedy series.
The band has previously dropped hints about a possible end to the show.
Clement told Reuters in January season two could be the last for Flight of the Conchords, and said its end would be "bittersweet" because "it's so hard" to produce.
Clement and McKenzie also told British magazine Q in August that the "difficult second series" would most likely be their last.
"The second series seems to me like it would be a good end to the show," Clement said.
Clement is moving into the film market with a major role as an ego-driven author in sci-fi film Gentlemen Broncos, which was released in America this week.
He also starred in the quirky comedy Eagle vs Shark in 2007.
