THEATRE:
Ever since, well, the Bible, hair has featured in stories and art so we can all agree that there's more to it than dragging a comb through it first thing in the morning and heading out to face the world. Choreographer and performance artist Tallulah Holly-Massey, artist-in-residence at the Basement Theatre this year, has long been fascinated by the social and cultural meanings of hair and has made a dance work all about it. Using movements inspired by internet tropes and videos of mammals socialising, four dancers/actors explore hair as a marker of identity.

CONCERT:
In his native Macedonia, Simon Trpčeski is "almost a pop star" thanks to virtuoso piano playing which has seen him jet around the world and play with orchestras like the Royal Concertgebouw and the New York, Chicago, Boston, and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestras. Now, he's in New Zealand — with performances in Napier, Tauranga and Auckland still to come — playing, with the NZ Symphony Orchestra, one of the best-loved pieces of music ever written for piano, Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto. The concerts also include two works by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich.
Stimmung Choir sing songs by the likes of Radiohead and Queens of the Stone Age; now it's back for two-nights only to introduce new New Zealand supergroup Neon Warwick and the Bethell Gang plus raise funds for choir founder Robin Kelly to take the show Valerie all the way to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The 30-strong choir will be joined by special guests Paul McLaney, Priya Sami, Paul Fagamalo and Valerie's Cherie Moore to sing choral music that's contemporary, bold and, occassionally, a little bit sweary. Make it a double bill and see the astounding cabaret show Valerie first.
