1. It's been 20 years since Once Were Warriors hit the big screen, and Woman's Day uses the occasion as an excuse to get co-stars Temuera Morrison and Rena Owen together again. Owen admits they thought Morrison wasn't up to the task of playing hard man Jake 'the Muss' Heke, saying: "I thought, 'Damn, Beth's going to be beating up Jake!' We had to work very hard to transform him into this monster." The transformation worked - so well in fact that when Morrison finished filming the iconic Kiwi movie and returned to his day job on Shortland Street, he sometimes found Jake was sticking around. "I was Dr Jake and I'd tell the patients, 'You'll be f****** sick by the time I've finished with you." Can someone from Shorties please leak those outtakes to YouTube?

2. Richard Kahui's wife says the former All Black took a two-hour nap while she was in labour in Tokyo. The pair unveil their newborn daughter Scarlett Mareikura Kahui to Woman's Weekly, and Amy drops her husband in it with some key details of the moments after her waters broke. "I couldn't sleep that night and Richard had to go away to training the next day. In Japan, work is the number-one priority; you don't get time off ... When Richard finally returned from training, he was so exhausted he went into my room and slept for two hours ..." Did he demand breakfast in bed too?

3. Opera star Dame Malvina Major is gearing up for her farewell nationwide tour, and in a wide-ranging interview with Woman's Weekly she addresses fellow opera singer Kiri Te Kanawa ("I've never seen Kiri as my rival ... we are very close"), her time growing up ("I yodelled, we performed in shearing sheds") and shows off her humble side ("The highlight of my career is that I had the voice and the gift to do it"). She's touring throughout February and March.

4. Get ready for some food scraps in the new season of MasterChef - judge Josh Emmett says this year's batch of wannabe chefs, now working in teams of two, are a fiery bunch. "The new format is great," he tells Woman's Day. "It's pretty much constant drama. The contestants are a lot more ballsy and the food is the best yet. It's very amusing, actually - some of the contestants argue the entire way through." Should we change the name of the show to Food Fight NZ?

5. Put down your lunch if you're reading Woman's Day - Jersey Shore star Snooki grosses everyone out with intimate details of her pregnancy. "Pregnancy is not for the faint of heart or bowels," she says. "It was a weird combination of feeling starving and like a fat slob at the same time. I'd sit down at the table hungry enough to eat a cow - and then I'd eat the whole herd. After every meal, a food baby grew on top of the fetus." She goes on to reveal the contents of a pimple forest that grew on her chest. Thanks for that, Snooki.
