Yesterday, we covered the shock divorce of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, who are separating after 10 years of marriage. The couple joins the ranks of hundreds of celebs before them whose marriages have ended in divorce.
But amidst the many splits, there are a few (and we really mean a few) unions that have survived all Hollywood can throw at them. Here are our picks for Hollywood's most enduring marriages:
She's one of the most celebrated actors of all time, with more Academy Award nominations than any other actor or actress. But Meryl Streep also holds the honour of having one of the longest marriages of any of her peers.
She married sculptor Don Gummer in 1978, the year she earned her first Oscar nomination for The Deer Hunter. Streep has gone on to become one of the most prolific and lauded actresses ever, but her fame has not appeared to dent her marriage.
The two have four children together, including Mamie Gummer who will co-star with Streep in Ricki and the Flash. Streep and Gummer are notable for keeping a low profile, though he does attend award ceremonies with her.
Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh: 28 years
The golden couple of the New Zealand film industry, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh can celebrate the longevity of their union alongside their multiple award wins. The two met during the final stages of Jackson's first movie, Bad Taste, and married in 1987.
They have two children and have crafted dozens of movies together, most notably the Middle-earth saga. Throughout the long, stressful years putting the franchise together (and the criticism leveled against the recent Hobbit trilogy), the two have remained together.
Walsh is much more private than her husband though, declining to be interviewed on the LOTR DVDs, but it's clear these New Zealand lovebirds are still going strong.
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson: 27 years
Just to get it out of the way, Tom Hanks has been married before: he and actress Samantha Lewes were together for nine years, having two children together including Fargo actor Colin Hanks.
However, since marring actress Rita Wilson, Tom Hanks has been happily married for nearly three decades. They have two children together and there don't seem to be any cracks in this partnership. The two are regularly seen together at awards ceremonies and on the red carpet.
Though her husband is the better known of the pair, Wilson has her own successful Hollywood career, producing films and working in television. Unlike some of his onscreen relationships, Hanks has crafted a relationship that withstands his phenomenal fame.
Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness: 19 years
Hugh Jackman rocketed to fame when he took on the hirsute role of Wolverine in 2000's blockbuster X-Men. Despite dealing with the odd gay rumour here and there, Jackman has maintained a nearly two-decade relationship with Australian actress Deborra-Lee Furness.
The two met on the set of Correlli in 1995, on which she was the main character, and married the next year. They have two adopted children together and have been together now two decades despite Jackman's ever-rising star. Furness definitely deserves props for living with someone who's had mutton chops for as long as Jackman has.
Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton: 18 years
Fellow famous Aussie Cate Blanchett is another actress who hasn't let fame get in the way of her marriage. Blanchett is coming up on two decades with her husband, playwright Andrew Upton. The two met on a TV show and got married shortly after.
Blanchett told Jay Leno in 2013 that he proposed only a few weeks after their first kiss. They have three children together and recently adopted a fourth. Blanchett and Upton were joint creative directors of the Sydney Theatre Company for five years (Upton now does it alone), and her growing international fame appears to have done little to shake the passion from the start of their relationship.
