Fading Gigolo, in cinemas now

Even though Godzilla may be swooping in, causing chaos and destruction everywhere this week, there are still other more intriguing-looking films opening today. Fading Gigolo sees John Turturro in writer/director/actor mode, teaming up with Woody Allen to tell exactly the tale suggested by the title. Both in search of some extra cash, the pair stumble into the world's oldest profession - Allen as the manager, Turturro as the goods - and realise there's a market for the attention they can lavish on curious women, played by Sharon Stone, Sophia Vergara, and Vanessa Paradis. Gutter Black at the Auckland Writers Festival, Aotea Centre, Friday

Easily one of the most interesting New Zealand music memoirs in forever, listen as broadcaster Karyn Hay discusses Dave McArtney's Gutter Black with members of Hello Sailor and Pink Flamingos, as well as his family and friends. This is a tribute to McArtney's music and a salute to his book; the definitive account of the man, the bands he played in and the music that rocked a nation.

The Naked and Famous, Powerstation, Friday and Saturday

Ye-ah, ye-ah, ye-ah, ye-ah, The Naked and Famous are back for the first headline shows in their homeland since releasing second album In Rolling Waves last year, and going by the reviews of their recent festival appearances, crowds can expect a stonking performance. Bloggers and Twitterers from all over lauded their Coachella main stage set, and the Guardian gave a four star review to their performance in Glasgow in November last year. Friday night has sold out, but there will be a handful of door sales from 8pm - and there are still a few tickets left for Saturday night, too. Read Chris Schulz's interview with the band here.

Last Exit to Muzai, Wine Cellar, Saturday

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you... Yes, local music label Muzai have turned five and are celebrating the only way they know how - an annual get together they describe as "the musical equivalent of Wrestlemania". And this one is special - the team are taking Muzai to Manchester this year, so join with god bows to math, Sunken Seas, The Bemsha Swing and other label-mates to say goodbye and good luck.
