Batman v Superman actor Jesse Eisenberg sparked outrage after comparing screaming fans at Comic-Con to "some kind of genocide". Here are some of the most memorable times celebrities have insulted their fans.
Louis Tomlinson
Back in 2012, One Direction's Louis Tomlinson angered fans who theorised he was in a secret relationship with bandmate Harry Styles and was being oppressed by management. The sub-fandom even had a cute nickname: Larry Stylinson.
When a fan tweeted, "funny that no matter what happens they will never deny larry", Tomlinson hit back and replied, "Hows this , Larry is the biggest load of bulls**t I've ever heard. I'm happy why can't you accept that."
It caused a huge amount of hormonally fueled Twitter drama, but the Larry rumours have never died.
Ringo Starr
In 2008, another member of a British boy-band angered his fans. This time it was Ringo Starr of the Beatles, who warned fans he was too busy to sign autographs. In a short video posted to his website, the drummer said he would be throwing all his fan mail in the rubbish, as he had no time to cope with it all.
"I'm warning you with peace and love I have too much to do. So no more fan mail. Thank you, thank you. And no objects to be signed. Nothing," he said.
"Anyway, peace and love, peace and love."
Rihanna
Rihanna is one lady you don't want to mess with on Twitter - she's quick with the burns and man, do they sting. When a fan tweeted that she'd lost respect for her and that collaborating with "the dude that beat your face off is not a good look," Rihanna replied simply, "neither is your avi #clapback".
Famous fans are no exception. When Kendall Jenner tweeted that she was headed to the Rihanna concert and "Rihanna BETTER sing Complicated, she received a frosty response from the singer when the tweet was reposted on Instagram: "Well don't come".
After Pink's retired motocross racer husband Carey Hart took the couple's two-year-old daughter Willow out for her first motorcycle ride in 2013, fans of the singer were concerned for the girl's safety and expressed their disapproval online.
Pink dismissed the criticisms and took to Twitter to share her feelings.
"If any of u have more experience on a bike than my husband, then I will listen to your opinions on how he should take my daughter for a ride," she tweeted. "I can't promise I will care, but I will listen none the less."

As fans continued to express their opinions on the matter, Pink responded bluntly. When one follower suggested she wait til her daughter was 16 to ride, she responded, "Yeah ok. I've never met you but that's great."
“@AshleyESweeney: @Pink wait until she's 16 and let her decide for herself. Bikes are no joke!” Yeah ok. I've never met you but that's great
Earlier this year, Selena Gomez attracted criticism from over-concerned fans after being snapped on the beach in Mexico with a slightly curvier figure. In an Instagram comment, one fan rudely wrote, "you need to work out! Please stop eating junk food". Gomez' response was gold:
"You're disgusting. IM IN the business and I could care less about 'they' or you say I should look like. I don't need to do anything other than love myself, take care of my work, fans, family and friends. And I do work out. It's not your place to tell anyone what they should or should not do."
As she received more online criticism, Gomez responded simply: "I love being happy with me yall #theresmoretolove."
