Local fare and comedy has been the big hit of this year's International Film Festival, which comes to a close in Auckland this weekend.
Festival director Bill Gosden said takings had been up on last year but exact figures were not yet available because different ticketing agencies were used to sell festival tickets.
This year has seen a definite preference for comedy over more serious films, with the Norwegian comedy O'Horten proving very popular. And this year's New Zealand features have pulled solid crowds.
The Canadian documentary Up The Yangtze was the standout of the festival, said Gosden, and repeat screenings had been added to the schedule this weekend to satisfy demand.
