At the Auckland International Film Festival you can do more than go to the films - you can meet the people who made them. Well, some of them, including director Taika Waititi who is part of the Meet the Filmmakers series at the Festival Lounge at the Civic. His latest film Eagle vs Shark features on Wednesday at 8.30pm and Thursday at 11am. At 6pm, before the first screening, he will discuss his work.
At 3pm on Saturday, animators Jill Kennedy, Elena Doyle and Janette Goodney talk about their craft. On Monday at 6pm American director Charles Burnett, who makes "non-Hollywood films about the lives of African-Americans", discusses his career and his 1977 movie Killer of Sheep, screening on Tuesday at 6.15pm and Wednesday at 1.45pm. On July 28 at 1pm, documentary-makers Shirley Horrocks (NZ) and Amir Bar-Lev (US) discuss the responsibility involved in telling someone else's story.
