KEY POINTS:
The smoky voice, the alluring looks, the independent spirit - there's a lot to like about Georgian-born muso Cat Power, aka Chan Marshall.
The acclaimed singer-songwriter and new face of Chanel (yup, Karl Lagerfeld's a fan too) returns to New Zealand in March.
Cat last played here in 2005 as a solo artist but this time she's returning with her band, Dirty Delta Blues, and a whole lot of new material.
Between visits she released The Greatest and next week she releases Jukebox, featuring covers of songs by Frank Sinatra, Hank Williams, the Highwaymen, Billie Holiday, Joni Mitchell, Nick Cave and even herself - Metal Heart from 1998's Moon Pix.
She plays The Powerstation on Tuesday March 4. Tickets from Ticketmaster and Real Groovy from January 23.
Of course, she's not the only rock femme on her way to New Zealand. As previously announced in TimeOut, PJ Harvey plays the Civic on February 13. And just to prove she's not the only bad seed by the name of Harvey, she's invited her long-time muso mate Mick Harvey to play support.
The multi-instrumentalist has worked extensively with PJ, playing on her albums To Bring You My Love, Is This Desire? and producing her Mercury Music Prize-winning Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea. They're such good friends, he's even threatened to perform some of her unreleased songs in his set.
Since the late 1970s Mick has also been Nick Cave's right-hand man, and member of The Bad Seeds. Over the past 23 years he has worked with several artists, composed film soundtracks and released his own solo albums, including last year's Two of Diamonds.
The girls on tour theme continues. Bic Runga returns to the stage after the birth of her first child, Joseph Te Okoro, last year. Runga will join the line-up playing the finale performance of the More FM Winery Tour, alongside Greg Johnson, Anika Moa, Goldenhorse and Dr Tree on Sunday March 2, Villa Maria Estate, Auckland. (Brooke Fraser is not playing the finale).
Tickets and transport tickets from Ticketek.
