The 1975
A second queue, which stretched the other way up Queen St towards the TSB Bank at the intersection with Wellesley St, was made up of fans who were too late to secure a wristband.
Auckland students Ronnie Kianloo, 20, and Shreya Basu, 20, had queued since 3.30am to get their chance to see the band face-to-face.
"I was listening to the radio last night and they were saying people were already lined up, and this was like 8pm," Ronnie said.
"We had originally planned to come at 9am, but we were like, 'We have to come earlier to get to meet them', especially as they said only 150 people would be allowed in. So we thought, 'We have to be there', so we came down at 3.30am."
While the atmosphere was calm before the signing, with fans patiently sitting on the ground, Ronnie said it had been "intense" during the night.
"When we were trying to get the wrist bands to go in, everyone was pushing, shoving and screaming - it was weird," she said.
Holly, 17, got her wristband at 3.30am, went home and returned at 11am for the signing.
"They're a good band. I'm not really into the whole, 'Oh my god, they're so hot', but I like their music," she said.
The band, fronted by lead singer Matt Healy, shot to fame with songs Sex, Chocolate, and The City.
They last played in New Zealand at the 2014 Big Day Out.
