Fans left thunderstruck after AC/DC forced off stage

Australian band AC/DC performed a concert plagued by technical problems in a Wellington gale but finished to rave reviews.

Strong winds and rain lashed the capital last night when the band played at Westpac Stadium but the wild night ended with canon bangs and fireworks that could be heard across the city.

The band was forced off the stage after just two songs, when power problems played havoc with the sound.

Newstalk ZB's Adam Cooper said the 30,000-strong crowd was left waiting in the rain.

"It was about 40 minutes of no one on the stage, no band on the stage, before they eventually returned."

Cooper said the concert was great once it finally got under way.

Local promoter Sandra Roberts said the band stopped the show while power problems affecting the sound quality were fixed.

Some punters took to Twitter to vent their frustrations.

Roberts said the band had been eager to return to the stage as soon as they could.

Wild Wellington weather was almost certainly the cause of the electrical fault, she said.

"There's high wind driving rain into the stadium so a bit of water has got into some of the electrical equipment."

AC/DC is playing two concerts on their final tour of New Zealand, and are to play at Auckland's Western Springs on Tuesday.
