Fair Go presenter Pippa Wetzell nearly caught in embarrassing scam

Fair Go presenter Pippa Wetzell says that she was almost caught up in an online scam.

Pippa has recalled an experience booking holiday accommodation with her husband and receiving an email offering a house they had looked at with a 40% discount.

"It seemed like a good deal," Pippa told Women's Weekly, "but there was a tiny something nagging at the back of my mind that seemed not quite right."

Suspicious of the email, they contacted the owner through the website rather than the link in the email. They discovered that the accommodation website had been hacked and the deal was a scam.

"Not only would we have lost our money, but we might have ended up arriving for the holiday and having nowhere to stay. Given my job, wouldn't that have been embarrassing?"

Speaking to Women's Weekly with her co-star Gordon Harcourt, the pair say they can both admit to being squeaky clean.

"I may have stolen a Milky Bar from a dairy in 1976, but I can't think of anything else," says Gordon.

The similarities don't stop there. Gordon says that it wasn't until the two started working together for Fair Go that a series of uncanny similarities began to emerge, starting with getting married on the same day at the same time.

TV presenter Pippa Wetzell had a close call with an online scam.

Gordon married in Wellington while Pippa tied the knot in Whangamata, both at 4pm on February 11, 2006.

Their families share striking similarities as well, both enjoying the same things like sports every Saturday morning.

The pair also each have two girls and a boy around the same ages and in the same order. With each of Gordon's children just three months older, Pippa says he jokes that he can tell her the future.
