Anika Moa believes he is "one of New Zealand's finest writers" and with two songs on the short list for this year's Silver Scroll Award, it seems the industry agrees.
Sean James Donnelly - or SJD - has released seven albums since 1998 and is one of New Zealand's most prolific artists.
"His songs cut through to your soul and tell you stories you never knew existed," says Moa, who likes him so much, she's invited him on her nationwide tour in September.
"He is gentle, calm and his melodies are perfect."
Even Donnelly admits his latest record is "freaking awesome and by far the best thing I've ever done.
