"It was fine I guess," she replies, causing her mother - and the five emotional women inside her head - some concern.
"We'll need support. Signal the husband," one glasses-wearing emotion says.
Mom coughs, but the five emotions in her husband's headquarters are focussed on watching a soccer game.
"Uh-oh she's looking at us. What did she say?" one moustached red emotion asks. "Is it garbage night? We left the toilet seat up. What? What is it woman, what?"
Realising he has to say something, the dad queries: "How was school?" much to his wife's frustration.
"You've got to be kidding me. For this, we gave up that Brazilian helicopter pilot?" one of his wife's annoyed emotions declares.
What follows is a funny miscommunication between husband and wife shown via the emotions in their brains, with Dad's "Control Centre" focussed on "putting the foot down" when riled by his daughter's attitude.
Meanwhile, Riley struggles to get a grip on her own emotions - Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith).
The film, directed by father-of-two Pete Docter, will be released next summer, and began as a movie about growing up. "But it turned out it's a film about me watching my kids grow up" Docter told USA Today.

"There's our world which we're conscientious of and looking at. So we're driving, eating dinner, whatever," he added. "And inside our head there's this whole rich internal dialogue and world no one else knows about.
"This film gets you inside each character's heads.
"We're intercutting to show what's going on inside each of their heads behind the scenes. What seems like a simple family dinner is actually fraught with all sorts of emotional angst and drama."
