Singer Ellie Goulding has spoken candidly about her heart problem - and revealed how it has forced her to change the way she lives.
Speaking exclusively to today's YOU magazine, the 28-year-old pop star - whose album Halcyon became one of the best-selling of last year - told how she has had to wear a heart monitor after a doctor detected an abnormality. "I went to the doctor for my throat and ended up being sent to have my heart checked out," she says. "I'm OK but I do have a small murmur, so I have to try to deal with my stress... flying, and working too much."
The singer, who grew up on a council estate in Herefordshire, also revealed how as a child she was so desperate to sound "middle class" that she mimicked the plummy tones of BBC Royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell. Growing up in a world of "beans and chips for tea", she says she was always aspirational: "I'd go to [my friends'] homes - they'd have books and organic food."
And she admitted she regards last week's split from boyfriend Dougie Poynter as a "break" rather than break-up. They want to get married and have children, she says, "but... feel we need to get more settled with work".
