Ellen Page slams Hollywood sexism: 'We've gone backwards'

Ellen Page says she constantly encounters sexism in Hollywood.

The 26-year-old The East star, who is rumoured to be dating True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard, 36, thinks that the acting industry is very tough on women and there is a lot of pressure to fit a specific mould.

When asked if she ever experiences sexism, she said: "Oh my God, yeah! It's constant! It's how you're treated, it's how you're looked at, how you're expected to look in a photo-shoot, it's how you're expected to shut up and not have an opinion.

"If you're a girl and you don't fit the very specific vision of what a girl should be, which is always from a man's perspective, then you're a little bit at a loss."

The Juno star also thinks that there are not enough scripts available for actresses or strong character roles.

She told The Guardian newspaper: "Only 23 percent of speaking roles in films today are for women. It feels like we've gone backwards."

Ellen previously revealed she would never move to Los Angeles because she is determined to lead a normal life when she isn't filming.
