It's taken decades of cliched Jennifer Aniston and Katherine Heigl rom-coms to get to the big screen, but in Bridesmaids we finally have a date movie both men and women can enjoy.
With Judd Apatow's name on the production credits, it's no wonder the Paul Feigis-directed film is chock-full of the kind of gross out comedy that made Superbad and Forgetting Sarah Marshall so sqeamishly funny.
There are plenty of disturbingly disgusting set pieces in Bridesmaids, which follows the hapless Annie (Kristen Wiig) as she attempts to help her friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) organise her upcoming wedding.
Wiig is great. In her first lead in a feature film, the Saturday Night Live stalwart is an awkward ball of nerves and her lengthy back-and-forth Bridesmaids speeches with Rose Byrne is one of the film's highlights.
On the back of Bridesmaids, Wiig deserves more big films. She even holds her own when Melissa McCarthy starts stealing scenes in the wedding dress shop.
