British lawyer Dempster, from Kensington, West London, has since undergone life-saving surgery and is recovering, reports the newspaper.
"I have no memory of what happened. The paramedics told me I had been saved by Dustin Hoffman. It's unbelievable," Dempster said.
"I want to say 'thank you' to Dustin Hoffman. He saved my life."
One of the paramedics at the scene, Martin Macarthur, added: "As we got out of the ambulance Dustin Hoffman explained what had happened.
"It is essential to get a history of what has happened and he witnessed the jogger go down, he was the main witness and saw him stagger and go down," the told the Press Association.
"He stayed on the scene for the whole duration of the resuscitation which was about 15 minutes. He was very concerned.
"And at the end Mr Hoffman was kind enough to come up to all the crews and said, 'Great job, guys', which was really nice of him to say."
Dempster also took to his blog to thank Hoffman and the paramedics.
"A big thank you also to my new found favourite celebrity Dustin Hoffman who called 999 and waited by my side until paramedics arrived and the staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital that stabilised me before I was transferred to the Royal Brompton Hospital," he wrote.
Grey's Anatomy star Patrick "McDreamy" Dempsey also recently hit the headlines after he rescued a teenage driver after his car flipped over near the star's Malibu, California home.
Dempsey saw the car flip and used a crow bar to pry the doors open. He then pulled Weston Masset to safety, called paramedics and stayed by his side until help arrived.
"I was scared for my life. I was upside down," Masset told ABC News after he lost control of his Mustang.
"Are you famous?" asked Masset after Dempsey pulled him from the wreckage. Replied the actor, plays neurosurgeon Dr Derek Shepherd on the hit show: "Yeah, I'm a doctor."
Ryan Gosling is another Good Samaritan. He was also hailed as a hero after he intervened when British journalist Laurie Penny nearly stepped into oncoming New York City traffic earlier this month.
"I literally, LITERALLY just got saved from a car by Ryan Gosling," Penny tweeted. "Literally. That actually just happened."
