Downton Abbey star Jim Carter and his wife, actress Imelda Staunton, yesterday joined hundreds protesting about the jailing of 30 Greenpeace activists, including six Britons.
Carter, who plays butler Carson, joined about 600 people outside the Russian Embassy in London after Russian investigators charged the crew of a Greenpeace ship with piracy for protesting at an Arctic oil platform owned by state-controlled energy giant Gazprom.
The 65-year-old said: 'I am here to support the people who are ludicrously in jail in Russia on trumped-up charges.
'They were not attempting to steal anything. They went armed only with their principles and a banner. It was a peaceful protest.
'When an international organisation is accused of piracy, it is sick.'
