Things start to get intense this week on Project Runway NZ.
Tonight on Project Runway, the designers had to create an 'Avant Garde' look inspired by a car, the Holden Astra.
"I want you to closely observe the design elements of the vehicle. Think about sculptural forms and pushing yourself to be bold in your designs," explains guest Kiwi designer Tanya Carlson.
What a bizarre challenge! Cars, trash, computer parts... this show has it all.
With a budget of $300 and two and a half days to complete it, the designers get to work to create their car dresses.
Drama unfolds as tears fall down Caitlin's cheeks in the workroom when she declares she's overly tired and the pressure of the competition was getting to her.
"I don't think I will be able to make a bloody dress today, I can't even get my head around it."
Peni stepped in and was super lovely and assured her that they "are all in it together" and gave her a big bear hug. Awwww. Nice one, Peni!
Benjamin's design was an off the shoulder metallic jacket with blue polka-dots and a huge floppy sun hat. It's interesting and unusual and definitely bold. But not super 'wow.'
Peni's hooded garment looked very stiff on the model and she looked like a fish out of water with a swimming cap on. The floral boots were an interesting choice too.
Kerry's padded grey jacket and shiny dress situation certainly turned a few heads but the judges didn't seem to mind it.
Misty's creation looked loose and drapey on the model and the added surgical face mask stood out as a bold stylistic choice.
Beth admits her black 'balloon' garment was "something I have never done before I am so proud of what I have done."
Caitlin's silver and white dress looked like a cross between a jellyfish and the Jetsons.
Purple haired Camille made a large black oil spill look glamorous but also extremely uncomfortable and unnecessarily big on the model's tiny frame.
Jess liked her design saying "she looks so sophisticated and she has got that killer vibe." The red details and the oversized lapel grabbed the attention of the judges.
Judy's design is by far the most intricate and detailed. She says she was "really happy with how the curves blended together."
Beau's garment was beautiful, fun, bright and feminine. Definitely, one of the brighter and bolder outfits to hit the runway – but not very 'avant-garde.'
Following his glowing review of last Wednesday's Coldplay concert on the Mike Hosking Breakfast, Matt Heath got a special invite to the band's show on Saturday night.
