Actor Neil Patrick Harris has apologised to the transgender community after he used an offensive term for transsexuals during a US TV interview.
The How I Met Your Mother star was taping a science segment on Live! With Kelly when he inhaled sulfur hexafluoride, which made his voice go uncharacteristically low.
"I've never sounded more like a tranny in my life," he joked.
The actor subsequently received a barrage of criticism for the comment and he has taken to his Twitter page to say sorry for using the slur.
"Truly sorry for saying the word 'tranny' on Live this week ... Should have been more thoughtful. Didn't at all mean to offend," he tweeted.
