June 1-26, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Established in 1947, the Holland Festival is a trendsetting international performing arts festival that encompasses all performance arts, with music and musical theatre at the core.
The programme features both established names and new, experimental shows from Western and non-Western artists, with visual arts, literature and architecture also on the agenda.
The festival opens with Mea Culpa, a spectacular opera about life, death and mortality by German director Christoph Schlingensief, who died of lung cancer last year.
Another highlight will be the award-winning musical Fela! which tells the story of legendary Nigerian musician and political activist Fela Kuti, whose Afrobeats inspired a generation.
