Does Matt Damon earn $1m per line of dialogue in Bourne?

Matt Damon may have earned $1 million per line of dialogue in the upcoming Jason Bourne film, it has been revealed.

In a recent interview with the Guardian, Damon revealed he only has around 25 lines of dialogue in the new Bourne installment, due out next Thursday.

Based on his previous pay rates, that means each line could've earned a cool $1 million.

According to a Forbes story around the time The Bourne Ultimatum was released, Damon was paid $26 million for the franchise's third installment.

And Vanity Fair reports the Hollywood star earned $25 million on The Martian.

It said: "If that paycheck is any indication for what Universal had to shell out to woo Damon back to the franchise that has grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide, he was likely paid at least $25 million for Jason Bourne".

$25 million for 25 lines worth of dialogue? Not a bad pay day.

However, the film's director Paul Greengrass says it's all about the "emotionality" Damon puts into the character.

He told The Guardian: "There's a vernacular to these films in terms of the acting that is really hard, because it is a heightened reality, it isn't real life, but it's got to feel emotionally truthful.

"When I think of a Bourne movie, unlike the other franchises alongside it in the summer, it feels to me it has to have that combination. I want to think we show the competition a clean pair of heels. I think our action is inventive, cooler."

Since starring in 2002's The Bourne Identity, Damon has appeared in three of the four films in the franchise.

The fifth film, Jason Bourne hits New Zealand cinemas on July 28.
