KEY POINTS:
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
She was once the highest-selling female vocalist in the world, but it seems Whitney Houston has fallen on hard times, announcing an auction of stage accessories and clothing to be held next week in New Jersey.
Amongst the 335 items up for auction, bustiers, bras and underwear are all on the block. The singer is also selling off 16 music awards belonging to her estranged husband, Bobby Brown, reports the New York Post.
The sale is expected to raise more than US$100,000, however, Houston's rep Nancy Seltzer denies the sale is a reflection on the star's finances.
"Many artists get rid of the old stage equipment and costuming they don't need any more. That is what is happening," Seltzer told the NY Post.
Auctioneer Steve Newmark of A.J. Willner Auctions said there would be no reserves on any of the items, but that winning bidders would be expected to pay in cash.
Standout items up for auction include a leather whip and a chair, known as "Whitney's throne".
