Demi Lovato calls out 'rude' fans

Pop star Demi Lovato has urged her fans to take their "negativity else where" following a rude encounter in New York.

The Cool for the Summer hitmaker was in the Big Apple to promote her upcoming tour with pal Nick Jonas, when she found herself surrounded by a group of loyal followers who were eager to get close to their idol.

However, the 23-year-old noticed her fans were getting a little too rowdy, and instead of stopping to do a meet and greet she opted to bypass them in favour of both her safety and theirs - a decision which was met with harsh criticism from her fans.

Lovato later took to Twitter to explain her actions to her followers.

"I try my hardest to stop for as many fans as I possibly can before it gets too hectic or crazy," she wrote.

"No matter how long I've been doing this, sometimes the madness with the yelling and pushing becomes overwhelming and to avoid people either getting hurt or having more anxiety, I go inside hoping my fans will understand.

"Today I had 2 instances where I had rude things yelled at me because I didn't stop for every single person. When stuff like that happens it actually really sucks. It's not okay and just remember, I'm used to getting hate but I'm human too. So please.. Take your negativity elsewhere (sic)."

Just hours before the post, Lovato and Jonas announced they were partnering with car company Honda to headline the 2016 Honda Civic Tour in celebration of the event's 15th anniversary.

The trek is part of their Future Now tour, which will stop at 37 cities across North America, kicking off on June 24 in Florida.
