KEY POINTS:
The first ladies of dance pop - one is blissful, the other dirty - are on their way to New Zealand.
First up is Wellington-born Ladyhawke (aka Pip Brown), who is making a big splash in Britain thanks to the song Paris Is Burning. She returns home for two shows, including the Kings Arms on August 14, in support of her debut album which is out in September.
The record-obsessed Kiwi kid grew up listening to everything her musical parents fed her, from Stevie Nicks and Joan Jett, Nirvana and Hole to Van Halen and Deep Purple. And for good measure, she also devoured good, credible pop music which gives you an indication of what to expect from Paris Is Burning, if you haven't already heard it.
On her debut, Ladyhawke worked with, among others, Peaches who also returns to New Zealand for a show at the Powerstation on September 25. The Canadian singer and musician, who is more electro-punk than pop, is putting the finishing touches to her new album which will be the follow-up to 2006's Impeach My Bush.
This will be her third tour to New Zealand and you can expect the sordid and sexy shenanigans of old, all done, of course, with tongue firmly in cheek. No doubt she'll have some new surprises for the boys and girls too.
