Dan Carter has confessed it was advice from rugby coach Steve Hansen that led him to agree to strip off and pose in his underwear for Jockey.
During an interviewed with Newstalk ZB's Jack Tame, the 33-year-old former All Black was asked what had prompted him to disrobe for the company. He revealed it was few wise words from Hansen that change his mind.
"It was the last thing I would ever do, standing in my underwear in front of a camera and be put on billboards," Carter said.
"[But] I was just sitting on an aeroplane next to Steve Hansen, of all people, and I told him about it and he was like, 'do you want to do it,' and I was like, 'no not really' and he goes 'well what are they offering' so I told him and he goes 'well if you don't want to do it why don't you go back and ask for three times what they are offering and if they say no then you don't want to do it anyway and if they say yes then you are creaming it'."
Carter took the rugby stalwart's advice and proposed a new deal to Jockey who "weren't too happy".
