Dame Helen reprises Queen for stage show

Dame Helen Mirren will be seen as the Queen on the big screen once again - as her latest stage production is beamed live into cinemas.

She is currently starring in new play The Audience at London's Gielgud Theatre, reprising the role that landed her an Oscar.

Her stage role, in a show directed by Stephen Daldry, will be screened in cinemas on June 13 as part of National Theatre Live. It will also be shown internationally.

In the production, writer Peter Morgan has imagined a series of conversations between the Queen and her Prime Ministers during their regular private audiences.

It also stars Haydn Gwynne as Margaret Thatcher and Robert Hardy as Winston Churchill.

Previous National Theatre Live screenings have included the Donmar Warehouse production of King Lear starring Derek Jacobi.

They have been seen in 250 cinemas and other venues around the UK and in 23 other countries.

Mirren picked up a best actress Oscar for 2006 film The Queen, also written by Morgan, which looked at events surrounding the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.
