Comedian Jeremy Elwood reckons the Health Department isn't going far enough with graphic pictures of mouth cancer on tobacco products, and that the same philosophy should be applied to other products, including boxes of chamomile tea picturing "an old woman dying alone with her cats".
The Kiwi stand-up's joke won him the Gag of the Year Award at the 2006 NZ Comedy Awards at the Classic on Sunday.
He wasn't the only familiar name to take home a gong. Brendhan Lovegrove, who recently returned from London, was voted NZ's Best Male Comedian, while Michele A'Court won Best Female Comedian for the fifth year. Best Artist Achievement went to Rhys Darby.
