After a two-year lay-off onetime Auckland bright young things Cut Off Your Hands play two shows in June in support of new single You Should Do Better, which is taken off second album Hollow due for release in July.
The band, who are also playing this year's Splendour in the Grass festival in Australia, play the Kings Arms, Auckland, June 24 and the San Francisco Bath House, Wellington, June 25.
The band's sound has apparently changed in the intervening years from the angular post-punk style of their debut, says their publicity, to "a penchant for charming melody and heavy laden baritone guitars.
Cut Off Your Hands draw from great antipodean pop purveyors, from the Go-Betweens to the Triffids and the Church, with a touch of Flying Nun thrown in for good measure."
Meanwhile, Luger Boa step out on a good old fashioned nationwide rock 'n' roll tour starting in July.
Led by former D4 frontman Jimmy Christmas, they team up once again with hard-rocking Auckland band Black River Drive on The Double Strength Tour which takes in 14 dates including a show at the Kings Arms on September 2. The tour is in support of Luger Boa's second album, New Hot Nights.
They also play other shows around Auckland, including the North Shore's Brownzy on August 5 and the Kentish Hotel in Waiuku on September 3. For tickets (on sale June 16) and a full list of tour dates go to eventfinder.co.nz.
Further down the line, Hamilton's new Claudelands indoor arena is getting its musical christening on July 16 with Edgetravaganza, a seven-hour music event featuring acts from both side of the Tasman.
The line-up for The Edge radio network-backed show includes Thirsty Merc, Stan Walker, Zowie, Midnight Youth, Avalanche City, Kids of 88, Illegal Musik Showcase and the Potbelleez. Tickets on sale from Wednesday.
And in other tour news, Modest Mouse have added a second night at Auckland's Powerstation on August 2 after selling out their August 1 show. Tickets for the new date go on sale this morning.
Cut Off Your Hands not the only band hitting the road
